technicianFollowing your car’s standard maintenance schedule helps keep it running smoothly and reduces unnecessary repairs. While your owner’s manual specifies maintenance milestones by mileage, the standard ones are:

Every 3,000 to 5,000 Miles

Within this timeframe, check and change your oil – a must to keep your engine healthy and properly lubricated. At this milestone, too, your oil filter may need to be replaced.

It’s not just the oil, though. Experts advise motorists to examine the dashboard indicator light, exhaust, and front and rear lights.

Every 15,000 Miles

By this point, it becomes apparent to whomever is looking at your car that the engine and cabin air filters need to be changed. As well, your wiper blades may need to get checked and replaced, especially if winter is just around the corner.

30,000 Miles

Once your car puts on this many miles, expect to get your fuel filter replaced and to have your engine coolant changed. A professional will further flush and replenish power steering and transmission fluids.

45,000 to 50,000 Miles

Your ignition system is up for a checkup by this point. Within that, your car’s spark plugs may be replaced, while a new ignition management system may be added.

That’s not all, however. By this point, your brakes need attention. So, be prepared to have your brake fluid changed, and your brake pads inspected and replaced.

Additionally, tires should be inspected and replaced every 45,000 miles.

By the 50,000 mark, your accessory drive belt may need to be examined and replaced.

60,000 Miles

This milestone means giving your timing belt a check. If you’re not aware, this part keeps your engine’s internal components running.

Also, your battery may be on its last legs by this point. So, expect to have it replaced with this service checkup.

75,000 Miles

For this service appointment, checking and replacing your car’s coolant hoses is part of the maintenance.
