It is generally recommended that your car’s oil is changed every 3,000 miles, but it is equally important to have a system flushing performed annually. DaSilva’s Auto Body Repair Shop offers this service to our customers, including cooling system flush service, transmission fluid and fuel system flush service and brake system flush service.
What is System Flushing?
Your coolant system keeps your car from overheating by circulating water and coolant through the car’s engine. A coolant system flush cleans out the contaminants left behind by rust and scale and clears any clogs in its components.
What Are the Benefits?
Performing a system flush once a year will protect against rust and scale that build up within the system over time. Another benefit of the flush is that it lubricates your water pump, extending its life and improving efficiency.
How Will I Know?
Aside from our recommendation, your car will alert you when it’s time for a system flushing. A clear indication that your system needs a flush is when the low coolant warning light comes on your dashboard. Its symbol resembles a small radiator and its low level is indicated by a down arrow or a line just above the base of the symbol. The more complex sign is when the check engine light comes on; that can mean many things. When that light illuminates on your dashboard, don’t ignore it! Schedule an appointment with us at your earliest convenience to eradicate the issue.
Draining vs. Flushing
Other auto body mechanics might try to convince you that a system draining is the same as a system flushing; we’re telling you it’s not! A radiator draining only removes 50% of the contaminants in your system and mixes new coolant with the old. It is far less effective than a complete system flush, which allows us to inspect the entire system to check for leaks, etc.
